Shockingly bad -
I love British Chick lit - it is possibly my favorite guilty pleasure and my standards are not very high. This however is the most unreadable, freakishly horrendous book I have ever read. The fact that anyone was willing to publish this author is amazing to me - not only is the story idiotic and boring, the writing is phenomenally bad.

Those darn Brits! -
"In the old days, you see, they had Cinderella and, okay, she beat her ugly sisters to the bride's bouquet but only after she had suffered, swept her ashes, survived a wildly dysfunctional family and dragged herself home at midnight several times. Thus illustrating that only when you have found your true self can you earn eternal union with your soul-mate."
Amy Jenkins puts a cute spin on the struggle we all go through with the fairytales we have had growing up and with what reality has presented to us now that we are grown-up.
"It's not that you think you're god or anything, it's just that you keep forgetting you're not."
With bits of Bridget Jones mixed in, you will find this main character is much more likeable despite her disloyalty to her fiance'.
"Clinical trials have proved that being in love is a kind of madness. It depletes your seritonin levels and manifests similar symptoms to that of obsessive compulsive disorder. You may expirience high levels of anxiety and behave outside of your values system thus producing feelings of guilt, fear and shame."
"We spend all this time and effort wondering who to love and if we love them enough. But the hardest thing is being loved. That's the hardest thing of all."

Thought Provoking -
This book ended up being much deeper then I expected. I really enjoyed reading it and recommended to several of my friends. If you've ever been in a situation like the main characters then you can relate.

Fast, fun read -
This is the story of Honeymoon Holt, called Honey for short. She met a man named Alex seven years ago. They spent one night talking, ate dinner at an airport the next day, and she hasn't seen him since. On the day of her wedding to Ed, her sister, a professional "feng-shuier" with many American clients, tells Honey that Ed is in L.A. Honey and Ed live in Britain.

Honey rips up Alex's address, but then Alex and his new wife are having their honeymoon next door at the same New York hotel. When Honey and Ed have a fight, and Ed throws his wedding ring on the bed and stalks out, things start to get interesting.

Jenkins writes with a wonderful dry British humor and many witticisms about friendship (she and her friend Della have a Cold War, which ends with the Wardour Pact, when they run into each other on Wardour Street in London and are happy to see each other). The plot is excellent. Readers will keep going, wanting to see whom she ends up with.

The main problem with the book is that Honey is not always likable. As a character, she is often selfish and shallow, and this may diminish a reader's affinity with her. Also, the book is marred by poor editing. At one point, a certain couple goes to Mexico, but the author can't seem to make up her mind whether the couple is in Mexico or the Caribbean.


Unbearable -
I found myself unable to finish this piece of shallow, celebrity culture kitsch.
